Claudia Sheinbaum Addresses Criticism from US Agriculture Secretary

The United States Secretary of Agriculture, Brooke Rollins, expressed her discontent towards Mexico for limiting the fumigation against a pest and for imposing burdensome tariffs on necessary parts for the maintenance of planes used in treatment. The Mexican official commented that there are considerations of excesses in the measures taken.

The Federal Consumer Prosecutor's Office (Profeco) issued an alert about fraud in false events that are being spread on social media, functioning as new forms of scams. Among the mentioned examples is a supposed immersive experience on the Titanic and a Thai-themed festival. Additionally, a supermarket in Mexico City, Soriana Hiper Gran Terraza Coapa, was identified for selling products at 815.70 pesos, deemed one of the lowest prices in the region.

Other supermarkets in the country offer the basic basket below the average, such as Chedraui Mina, Soriana Híper Ejército, and Walmart Fuentes Mares in Chihuahua. Profeco indicated that there are still gas stations selling fuel above 24 pesos, despite the top price being maintained. Consumers are advised to verify the authenticity of events and that prices are displayed in Mexican pesos.

Regarding the prices of the basic basket, it was reported that the average remains at 910 pesos. Some gas stations sell fuel above 24 pesos, according to the head of Profeco. President Claudia Sheinbaum led a conference from the National Palace, where the topic of the Telecommunications Law was discussed along with other matters.

Following criticisms from former president Ernesto Zedillo regarding the election to the Judicial Power, Sheinbaum defended her government and responded that authoritarianism occurred during the neoliberal period. She also referred to the detention of five Mexicans in raids in Colorado and to the criticisms from the United States regarding the pest of the invasive species, attributing the statements from the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture to political campaigns.
